I was fortunate to attend the DisruptHR KW event a couple days ago. What an inspiring group of presenters, a great format for high energy, inspirational presentation and what an amazing turnout of participants! It was one of the best organized events I’ve attended in awhile.

The first presenter was Kurtis McBride, in the five minutes and 20 slides that Kurtis presented, I ended up with a page of notes and an epiphany. I could not do justice to the information that Kurtis shared with us, so I will share my distillation, interpretation and additional thoughts instead.

A concept shared by Kurtis was that there are three dimensions to leadership Strategy, Coaching, Execution. It was suggested that rarely, if ever, do all three of these dimensions reside in the same individual. This becomes a challenge; how do we ensure that we can get the best leadership in our executive roles to get the balance required to ensure our team is getting all the support they need to become successful?

That started me thinking, as a workforce, we are seeing that more companies are adopting fractional roles within their teams, I was able to find some supporting data in a McKinsey & Company study published in June 2015. As my brain continued to whirl and process possibilities my thoughts turned to “?”

Imagine the potential of getting three collaborative people who bring the dimensions of Strategy, Coaching and Execution and having them lead the team together… each focused on their own strengths. What could they accomplish? How much quicker could they affect change? How much more effectively could they grow people and drive the execution of strategy?
